Happy Thanksgiving!

I received an email from my dad yesterday, titled "Mayonnaise Jar & Two Beers".  I was skeptical, as I thought it may be one of those "send this to 10 people or you'll have bad luck for 8 years"-type emails.  But my dad isn't really the type, so I read it over.  It had such a great message, and completely appropriate for today, so I thought I would share.
Wishing you all a safe, happy, and family-filled Thanksgiving!

Mayonnaise Jar & Two Beers..

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him..

When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar..

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed..

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full..

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you..

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children.

Spend time with your parents.

Visit with grandparents..

Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your spouse out to dinner.

Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter.

Set your priorities.

The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented.

The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'

The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

LIFE ISN'T ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORM TO PASS...

DIY-Reupholstering Chairs

Right before a had Ella, I got a huge urge to reupholster a chair!  I'm talking, 38 weeks preggers, on the floor on all fours, using a staple gun.  Yeah, I know...the things we do when we're pregnant!  I'm here to tell you that if I can do it at 38 weeks pregnant, anyone can do it.  Andrew and I had just purchased a dining room set from my sister-in-laws friend.  Nothing fancy, just a table and 6 chairs.  The first thing I wanted to do was change the fabric on the chairs to make them my own.

This is a before picture of the chair.
I took a trip to Hobby Lobby (you could go to Karen's Fabrics or Michael's, my Hobby Lobby just happens to have a great selection of fabrics) and picked out a fabric that I liked.  You want to make sure it is a thick fabric.  If it's too thin, it could tear.
3 yards of fabric should be enough, but I got 3 1/2 just to be safe.

You will need: fabric, scissors, tape measure, hammer, flat head and phillips head screwdriver, and a staple gun.

First, you need to flip the chair upside down and unscrew the current seat on the chair.  In my case, someone had reupholstered the chair before me, so I had to remove the fabric they used.  I did this by using the flat head screwdriver to pop the staples out.  Once you have completed this part, put the seat face down (like picture above) on the fabric.  You want to cut it so there is enough fabric to be folded under the seat.  After I did this, I measured it with the tape measure, and cut all the other fabric.  Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the rest of the steps, but I will be sure to do that in future posts.  Next you will pull one side of the fabric under the seat, and staple.  Then do the opposite side, staple, then the other two sides.  You will staple the corners last.  Once it is all stapled tight, you will screw the seat back into the chair.

This is my finished product!
Note: This project was done before I started my blog.  Future projects will have better step-by-step pictures.
